Alcohol and Epilepsy medicine

Wed, 11/05/2008 - 01:22

Ive been taking Epilepsy medicine for 4 years now. I just turned 21 and would like to drink alcohol.  Does alcohol really negate the medicine or are the doctors just saying that? Even if it wears the medicine down a little bit, do you think it would still be fine to drink as long as I still take my medicine on time?

Any thoughts would be great!

I had a traumatic frontal

Submitted by Gary Walcott on Fri, 2019-01-04 - 21:11
I had a traumatic frontal lobe brain injury in 2000 and had a seizure in 2004. I've been on aniconvulsants ever since, the first being Depakote, which I stopped and am now on Lamictal. I've been taking Lamictal on a regular basis, albeit not at the same time every day but 200 mg twice a day. I've had several seizures since I got on Lamictal and would like to blame them on the drug but realistcally they were caused by alcohol. I drink 4 alcoholic beverages probably every other day and just had a seizure yesterday morning after a night of drinking. I would recommend staying away from it. I would recommend for myself going back to AA and that might be what you need too. Long story short don't drink.
