After effects of a seizure

Tue, 02/15/2005 - 14:56
I recently had a breakthrough seizure on the bus (I'd missed my meds) and I'm just wondering what the after effects are for people. I must've fallen because I have bruises and my muscles are killing me. The biggest issue is that I've not been able to sleep and I'm not sure if that's because I'm back on the meds or just stress over what happened.

Mine are the same ... Only

Mine are the same ... Only occur when I am asleep - that never made sense to me, as I always thought major stress &/or lack of sleep were the major triggers.

I will be turning 44 years

I will be turning 44 years old in September, & have only been having seizures for approximately the past 6 or 7 years maybe. I had been taking 1000mg. of Keppra twice per day for maybe 4 of those years or so. Anyway, my after-effects are very similar to the ones I've read here ... Severe body aches; feeling like I got hit my a semi truck ... Major headache ... Nausea ... SEVERE drowsiness, etc.  but the absolute worst possible effect that I feel after one of my seizures, is the feeling that I M being smothered.  I can't get enough air - & it literally feels like I've been buried alive & am running out of oxygen.  Of course this then increases the anxiety, so I start crying & panicking, which makes breathing that much more difficult.  It's a horrible, endless, cycle to be in. Has anybody else experienced this?  And if so, have you found anything that helps alleviate this horrifying feeling?

I would try taking some Aleve

I would try taking some Aleve, along soaking in a hot bath. I've found the hot water tends to help loosen the muscles a bit; at least enough to make it somewhat more bearable.  Hope this helps. Good luck Hun.
