I have had alot of experience in this area since early May with my 10 yr old daughter.  She has been having seizures every night every hour after she falls a sleep.  Sometimes she has 10 a night.  Nothing will touch them not even Ativan. These seizures are very different than her normal seizures.  Some are very small and most often she is awake after them.  We had her in the hospital a week ago for two nights and her neurologists do not know why she only has them at night.  She did get her period just before we left the hospital which explains why the seizures suddenly have become out of control.  Her chemistry is different now and her current meds (Keppra & Trileptal) are not working well at night.  We are switching Trileptal for Banzel.  So far she continues to have seizures.  Some of them are tonic clonic seizures.  She is awesome during the day.  It will be another 6 weeks before we will know if the Banzel is going to work.

I would say that if you have a history of epilepsy then you are most likely having seizures during your sleep but to know for sure you should be admitted for a few nights in the hospital and have them do an EEG.

I would like to know if anyone has experienced a chemical change and have caused them to have uncontrolled seizures only at night.  Increases in medication make them worse.  We are very tired and the professionals are clueless!

Well I still use terms grand mal and petit mal for my son's seizures and I am very uptodate on seizures and terminology.  I do recommend contacting your neurologist for furter testing.  They could perform a long term monitoring test which is a video eeg done over several days to try and catch the seizure activity.

Good luck

Christine
