I'm 15 with petit mal, will it go away?

Wed, 08/03/2011 - 14:25

Okay, I'm 15 with peit mal seizures aka absence seizures. And I'm at the point where I'm sick of them, I want them out of my head forever! I'm going to be 16 in Feburary and I want to drive but can't if I'm uncousious for 2 seconds or 3 seconds. And it's truly annoying.

When I was 5 my brother noticed them once in awhile, at age 8 it got worse. My mom didn't tell the doctor till grade 8 which I told her in Grade 7 to mention it :/ and now I'm 15 and on medication, it's clobazim or whatever. And they still haven't totally gone away. This morning I had one but my hand still moved my hair away from my ear. Is me having movements them going away?

PLEASE HELP ME! Just tell me if they'll go away or not...

Hi, I completely understand your situation. I was 15 when my petit mal was diagnosed, like you i got to the point where i just wanted them to go away ( i was having up to 30 seizures a day) but after a b it of a rollercoaster of changing medication i found the one that worked for me and they stopped. It does also help if you know anything that triggers them - i found that stress and tiredness made mine worse so tried to reduce these causes. I know it can seem like you are fighting a loosing battle sometimes but youwill get there. Make sure you tell your friends and family though as i found their support invaluable. Don't worry about anything everything will come with time. Good luck with it all.

I never had 30 a day (maybe without medication) but not while on it. About over a year ago I had Valproic acid, they went away but I had a side effect well 2 actually. Now I'm on clobazim and they're still not totally gone. And honestly, it feels as if I am loosing a battle against it. If I could have one wish it would be for them to go away right now.

Most petit mal seizures last only a few seconds. Most commonly they involve staring episodes or "absence spells. -
