Epilepsy From Premature Birth??

Thu, 04/27/2006 - 18:48
My 10yr old son has frontal lobe epilepsy - I met someone the other day who had childhood epilepsy and she said that her dr told her mother that it was due to her being born early (36 wks) and that her lungs had not fully developed...my son was also born at 36 wks but no one has said anything about this...Has anyone ever heard of such a thing and if so, what was the outcome? They say they will not know if this is childhood epilepsy or not until he goes through adolescence...thanks!!

My son was born at 40 weeks-My water was broke for 21 hours before he was finally delivered vaginally.I spiked a fever-and later found out I had strep-b.He weighed 9 1/2 lbs,he walked at 9 mos. At 4months my son had his 1st seizure. He is now 25 yrs old-has had so many seizures over the years that he has slight mental retardation. He has to have constant supervision. He has a series of seizures almost exactly every 30 days. For a 24 hour period he will have 6-10 grand mal seizures. He has been on all types of seizure meds, has a VNS implant, but has never had his seizures controlled. I believe his seizures stem from the untreated Strep-b infection and his birth. I also had strep-b with my 3rd son,but was treated with antibiotics in labor and he was born vaginally, and is now 15 with no problems.
