Depakote

Hi! My daughter had her video EEG last week. I will know the results this coming Friday. The doctor decided to put her on depakote and take her off topamax. I am wondering if any of you have tried this medication, and if so how did you or your child do? What were the side effects? Thanks! Mindy

Yes we are all different. We all have different side effects. Please make sure you read the long term effects and get the proper care during the time that your child is taking depakote. http://www.epilepsy.com/medications/b_depakote_side.html take care Lisa http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/epilepsyapproach/

Hi Mindy, My daughter has been on valporic acid another name for the medication your daughter is on, for about 4 months she is doing fine. It makes her hyper at night and she has had some trouble falling asleep. We have noticed her hands shake when she need to be given her next dose. Not sure if this is a side effect we are going to see the Nero in Feb and I will mention it. However my family dr. who has been our dr. for years said she would rather her be on Lamitical instead. She says its better and has less side effects. Not all medications are right for everyone but give it a try. My daughter has absence seziures and we still see them (not as often) I will keep you posted with information from my nero. all the best Teresa for my Angelbaby
