Anxiety and seizures

Mon, 07/22/2013 - 01:11
Lately I've been noticing a connection between my seizures and anxiety (when I feel nervous or really scare ) my pulse quickens and so does my heart rate . I've also noticed that I've become more panicky when I feel like my seizure is going to happen. Does anyone else have this issue and know what I can do about this ...I have grand mal seizures and I'm taking keppra and oxocarbozine

I have that issue too. I take the same meds as you also. You know your body very well, that is awesome! Having a creative outlet has always helped me I read-I really like to read fantasy books, something fun and easy to read that takes me out of my own world and puts me in a place like Hogwarts (yes I love Harry Potter, I even have my favorite parts dog-eared and read them when I feel lousy). I write-I make up my own fantasy stories about cool places I would like to go. I play my guitar-I love my guitar, and I love singing. I do all of this to take my mind off of the possibility that I am going to have a seizure-or that I even have epilepsy. This always makes me feel better. I really want to get into painting next, and I also like gardening. Always remember to take deep breaths, all the extra oxygen you are taking in helps your brain recover and relax. Sometimes, if I feel really bad I take a nice relaxing bubble bath-but ONLY under close supervision! I use aromatherapy. I like oils like lavender, and jasmine. I add a couple drops to the bath, I also have the pillow sprays and I spray the scent on my pillow before I go to sleep and breath deeply. I hope this helps, take care Kristin

I def have the same issues and my dr put me on valium and I take that everyday and it seems to help. I have the worst anxiety when I'm out around other people and when it starts getting bad I practice breathing and sing in my head My Girl cuz that's what I sing to my baby girl and it calms me down. I'm getting surgery next month and the dr said that after the surgery he is gonna get my anxiety under control so I can drive and live a normal life again. I can't wait to get better
