9 year old with absent seizures

Wed, 09/20/2006 - 14:59
Hi everyone, I am new to this forum but went looking for support. My daughter was diagnosed with ADD last year because of difficulties in focusing in school. (Since JK.) We began the ADD medication concerta which brough out these seizures. They only last 5 seconds and she is fine. After we took her off Add medication the seizures are hardly there but I still see them (hard to see sometimes) We had her diagnosed with E after a sleep deprived EEG. We are going to start lamitical this week. My question is after reading on this forum, could she get worse after she startes the medication? I have been hearing that some kids get worse and it becomes grand mals. Now I am scared to death. Should I leave her alone? She is not that bad now I am scared to give her anything. Can anyone share a storylike mine and tell me how the medication did work on the absent seizures. My daughter is 9 years old and so bright and dealing pretty good with this. It's her mother that need help. I want to do what is best for her and yet I don't want to do anthing. Does this make sence? I am praying everyday for the hope that she will out grow this. What should I be doing and saying to her so she can cope with this as she gets older. I don't want to break her spirit. Help wanted Tre

welcome to the form I am semi new myself. I also have a 10 yr old daughter with Absent seizures and myclonic seizures. She had them most likley since about three but did not get diagnosed until she was 10. She had the same problems in school. Also she had been diagnosed borderline ADD at age 6 but never medicated. As far as getting worse she did because she went untreated she started getting myclonic seizures. She has been on depakote since may and has had only two absent sz compared to several a day. she is also doing better in school and now in the gifted program. Will she get worse or loose it Unknown. the getting older prt unsure yet myself.

Hi there im new to this site. I have a 7 yr old daugther, who since christmas has been having a few staring spells, usually around bath/bed time, I put it down because she was tired and also  her brain is quite active. I have been to the Drs and just recetnly been for an EEG, during the the hyperventilation test she went into one of these staring spells only a few seconds if that, i am worried to death that he may say she has absent seizures. She has no problem at school and they havent noticed anything either. I am so anxious and worried about if she has to go on medication, this is something I do not want to do, as ive read so many not very nice reports. My problem is will she get any worse??? she is still bright and is not affected by them so i wonder if it is best left alone. I have to wait for the results to come back. I have also searched the website for alternative medicines, if you go on Native Remedies. com there is a product there called Epi Still - I wonder if there is anyone out there who has tried this and could help.

I hope your daughter continues to get better. Like myself and am very worried about the whole thing

thankyou
