21 month old with 2 normal EEGs - possible atonic seizures

I was wondering if anyone can relate to my case. I have a 21 month old that has passed out 6 times. It only happens about once every 2 months. The episodes last 1 minute and he gets so pale and his lips turn blue. He is totally floppy, there is no movement at all. They are terrifying! I went to another ped. neurologist for a second opinion and he brushed me off and said it was probably breth holding, it is not! He was in the hospital for 4 days because last week he had 2 episodes in a day. They have done so many tests and they are all normal. I am not sure what to do next. The Dr. thinks it is Atonic frontal lobe seizures. His EEGs are normal and is set to take a 24 hour one next week. He is on Keppra. I just want a solid diagnosis so I can stop worrying that it is something else. Any insight would be great, I am going crazy with worry and am frustrated with the doctors. Thank you.

Hi Jenniflower, I am sorry about your little one having these problems. I am going through something with my son also. I am dropping you a note to ask you to please read the latest entry in my blog. My son has suddenly started having seizures at 2 1/2 years old and we have been on quite a ride! I have learned a few things about meds and seizures, but of course am not an expert. I just want you to read what I just learned about some kids and vitamin B6 just in case this is what is effecting your child. It is a real long shot, but worth looking into. It really sounds like seizures to me. The change in his color could be all the oxygen being taken from his skin because they breathe much more shallow when they are having a seizure. My son has tonic clonics and he goes blue, falls to the ground, but then there is additional stuff like twitching and movement. The postictile time also really sounds like a seizure. Do you mind if I ask where you are? I am in Calgary Alberta Canada. Here the Children's hospital has a team of Neurologists and two of them are epileptologists this really helps. Good luck with your son, please let me know how he is doing, Tresa (mama bear)

I am in Tucson, Arizona. What is the name of your blog? I am interested in all info I can find. I am still worried that it is his heart. He has had all of the standard tests, but without a solid diagnosis of seizures, that is still a worry to me. I just want proof of something. His 24 hour EEG is today, so I hope it shows something -I would rathar it be seizures than his heart. Thank you!
