traveling/flying alone with epilepsy

Sun, 05/14/2006 - 12:37
Does anyone have experience flying alone with epilepsy? I'm going to go to Morocco in August. I'll be meeting my husband there. I have to take two flights to end up in Casablanca. If I have a seizure I don't want them to stop the plane, call the paramedics, in short, be alarmed. I just need advil, water and someone to help me whether with an aura or post seizure. Anyone done this before? Nancy B. "Meskerkid"

Hey trogbos, Excellent advice. I am going to get documentation from the neurologist. I've heard two different versions re. letting the airline know: tell them before and tell them once onboard. Got any ideas? When did you tell them. And tell me more about opening doors, sounds good. Any improvement over flying would be heavenly. Any chance of getting bulkhead seats? I'm 5'10, fly coach of course and hate it the whole way! I'm glad you're out there!!

My experience in getting bulkhead seats is that the airline does not assigng them, the airport does. I fly Delta out of Phoenix and Cincinatti quite a bit and I find it best to call the airport the day of the flight and request the bulkhead. They reserve them for passengers that have broken legs and such. I have never been turned down but I have always been told that if someone with a broken leg shows up that I will have to switch. I have also had some luck calling the airline and asking for the bulkhead and explaining my situation and they have been kind enough to call the airport for me and have gotten it for me as well.

Y'know, things are looking better all the time. I'm thinking that it won't be such a scary flight after all. This epilepsy.com is fantastic isn't it? My friends are sympathetic of course but this is advice from my peers so to speak. I'm not flying until August so this eliminates a couple of months of worrying ahead of time. I'm prone to that nonsense, especially with this type of thing. Nancy B.
