Smoking and Epilepsy

Thu, 02/15/2007 - 19:04
I semi-controlled tonic-clonic sez and also happen to be a social smoker, usaully having maybe one or two ciggaretts a month. Recentley however my sez activity has increased along with migrains and now whenever I smoke I seem to get a nicatin high that makes my head hurt so bad, I feel as if I am going to throw up or pass out, or both. Smoking used to do the exact oppisate, and make me feel calmer, I don't understand what has caused this change, or even if anyone else has experinced anything like it. Does this sort of thing sound familer to anyone? Any advice would be much apprated. Oh, and don't worry about lecturing on quiting smoking, as of last night I am offically a non-smoker. Thank you very much, Janice

ZenMatt- Janice, I too have quit as of recent(February 2nd) and my own headaches have stopped. TLE does different things to different people. In my own case the headaches used to happen immediately after orgasm and then having a cigarette killed the headache! Then, the tide shifted at some point and the post "O" headache left on vacation but the smokes were hurting my head. I liked the nico-buzz but it just wasn't worth it anymore. Headache free for 20 days now! :)

I have generalized E. consisting of Simple, Complex Partial, Absence and Tonic-Clonic Seizures. I too quit smoking in April of 2006, and I was not on any medication at the time. I never had an increase of seizures after quitting, and I was a smoker for 18 or 19 years. Like I said, it affects everyone differently. Susan
