Smelling smells that are not there?
Fri, 03/18/2005 - 16:38I have a question. I have not been on any meds for epilepsy for many years now. So I have never thought this might be connnected but have recently started wondering.I smell gasoline. It has happened probably 4 times in the last 6 months. One time I was in my classroom by myself, once I was in an assembly, another time my husband and I were getting my son in the car to leave and the other time just watching tv. It only lasts for a few seconds, but no one else smells it and they thing that I am all crazy!I do have a meningioma brain tumor that I am having removed in about a month. I have been under the care of a neurosurgeon for awhile but not a neurologist. I have never mentioned this to the NS. I see a N on Monday and will ask her this question, but wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this? Thanks!!

I smell gas. I used to have a lesion on my brain (non-canerous). Sorry to hear about the brain tumor. That seems pretty serious. I hope your surgery is successful. I just recently started smelling Nail Polish. I was curious if anyone had encountered this. It has happened twice in the last few weeks. It's kind of scary. I hope the surgery went well. Not sure when this was posted. It seems like the last comment was over a year ago.

I am woke from a dead sleep, its the deepest of all sleeps and I get woke up from that awful smell in my nose, I wake when I cant stand the smell no more, I have never had one of these while awake, and I always seem to be in this real deep sleep, its dark deep sleep I dont know how else to explain it, I have had epilepsy all my life just petite..but my twin at one time had grandmals her were caused from the anti seizure meds they had her on they did not like each other, so I was aware of the garlic smell so here I am over 40 and this starts to happen in my sleep, I just had an MRI on my head done no call back from the dr so Im thinking this is all just another seizure but is my deep dark sleep actually me in a seizure and the carlic smell is me coming out of it, or is this one of those partial seizures???
