Simple partial seizures that generalize????

Mon, 09/25/2006 - 22:56
I have simple partial seizures (deja vu, funny stomach feeling, etc) and take Lamictal. This past week I had a stomach bug and couldn't keep anything down, including several doses of my meds. Last night I had a seizure. I knew it was happening, just like always. However, it usually lasts 30 seconds or so and fades away and I am fine. Last night I remember the deja vu, then the stomach feeling, then NOTHING. I woke up on the tile floor in my office. I had knocked my head a good one in a few places, accidently bit my tongue, and bruised my jaw bone. I have absolutely no recollection of anything past sitting in the chair and feeling the seizure start. This is the only time this has ever happened to me. I freaked, and went to the ER. I was really concerned about head injury since I obviously fell. My CT came back fine, and they drugged me up for the headache. I have an appt with my neuro this week to discuss this. Has anyone ever had this happen? I have NEVER had any other type of seizure other then simple partial. I realize that being sick and puking up some of my meds probably contributed, but I wouldn't think it would cause the seizure to be different/worse. It scared the HECK out of me!

Thank you so much for the links, I am going to check them out ASAP. Also, thank you for the kind words of advice and care! It really means a lot because IRL I don't know anyone else with a seizure disorder. I was sitting in front of the computer for quite a while. I only have one in my office, but I had mentioned to my DH once that it seemed like I noticed more seizure activity when I was on the computer a lot. Especially if I am doing something that has a white screen/background (such as typing in Word). I think I had more caffeine than usual as well that day. I did make a detailed list of what I need to discuss with my doctor. I am bad to forget once I get in there! This has really had me down (and pretty freaked out to be alone). Especially since I was having excellent control with my meds. This sorta threw me for a loop. I am under a lot of stress, which could also be a contributing factor. I am now even more stressed, worried about the legal ramifications this will have (losing my license) because I just quit my at-home job to pursue a job that would be a 45 minute commute each way. Anyway, again, thank you so much for the advice and website links. I really do appreciate it! Stacie :-)

I have the same experiences on a daily basis. I look at the simple partial seizure as a fore warning to me as a chance to get to a safe place until I am sure that it has passed and am positive that I am through seizing. Usually I am able to tell that I am through seizing by the feeling that I have either I am alert and ready to got after the simple partial has pasted or I have just woken from a nap because after I have a grand mal or even a complex partial I am very tired and have to nap for a while afterwards. I hope this helps you some.
