Seizure and driving in WA state

Tue, 05/02/2006 - 13:31
I have only had 1 seizure (1 in my whole life) and that was in November and I'm hitting my 6 month mark this month. I have been doing everything my doctors say and am taking antiseizure meds. Anyone know the details if any paperwork has to be filed with the DOL or anything so that I can drive legally again? I don't believe my neurologist has reported me to the DOL and I have receive no notification that my license has been taken away.

I have an appointment next week with the doc but I'm gathering information first before I say something, I don't want to corner myself :). Heres what the DOL said: Hello, The Department of Licensing is responsible for determining the eligibility of all person to be licensed in this state. In doing so, the Department screens each applicant for an original or renewal driver's license and asks the following question, "In the last six months, have you had a loss of consciousness or control which could impair your ability to operate a motor vehicle?" An applicant who responds "yes" is required to submit a medical certificate from a competent medical authority to determine their eligibility for licensing. The Department also relies upon medical professionals, law enforcement, courts, family and friends to advise us when someone has a medical condition that may impair that person's driving ability. State law does not require physicians to report to the Department patients with medical conditions that could impair driving. However, should your physician notify us of such a condition, the Department has the authority to require you to submit medical certification, complete knowledge and drive tests and, pending those results, cancel your driving privilege. However, we must balance such information against current laws which gives the driver the right to retain the license if he or she passes a drive test. The laws that speak to this issue are Revised Code of Washington 46.20.031, 46.20.041, 46.20.291 (effective 1/1/99) and 46.20.305 (effective 1/1/99). These laws are on the Washington State Home Page at www.access.wa.gov. Customer Service Drivers

I LIVE IN ILLINOIS AND YOU HAVE TO BE SEIZURES FREE FOR 6 MONTHS BEFORE YOU CAN DRIVE. SO IT IS VERY HARD FOR ME BECAUSE I CAN'T GO WHERE I WANT TO GO WITHOUT SOMEONE TAKING ME AROUND TOWN.
