Lamictal

Tue, 07/03/2007 - 23:40
Does anyone have problems with Lamictal? I find myself getting double vision and so dizzy that I have to lay down where ever I'm at. It seems to be worse then some of my seizures.

Hi Howard. I use lamictal aswell and the only time I experienced those side effects was when I became toxic on them. Best to have your levels checked!

My wife's first seizure medication was Lamictal, and it worked flawlessly, EXCEPT... the rash. The rash is very, very bad. Do a little research online, and you'll find some photos of the rash that Lamictal causes in a very small percentage of patients. If you let the rash go on too long, it can become permanently scarring - very bad. We knew about this ahead of time (though many doctors don't give much warning about it), and as soon as we spotted a very light rash starting, we went straight into the Doc's office. He looked at the rash and switched my wife's meds immediately. On the other hand, my wife had very similar symptoms on Keppra (dizzy, off-balance, un-motivated, etc).

I haven't experienced the the rash yet, but I'll keep an eye out. I did have the dizzy feeling when I first started taking it, but before I could call my Dr about it, he called me after blood test results came in and told me to decrease my dose. If Lamictal can help control my seizures, I'm willing to try to deal with the rash to a point. I'd rather have a rash any day than seizures.
