Edel: Although everyone is different with their seizures and meds, my neurologist said I could have an occasional glass of wine with a regular meal. He said I should try a half glass and see how I react and feel with a meal. I'm on Trileptal, and haven't tried any wine yet b/c I'm frankly a bit afraid of doing so. My neuro said it would probably make me sleepy, and it lowers the threshhold for seizures, thus my fear of doing so. My husband is a wine collector, so this is a major lifestyle change for me. Some of my AA friends who no longer drink recommended that I always have a nonalcoholic beverage of my choice with me so I won't feel left out. I've tried it, and found I'm still having fun and lots of laughs with my friends. I can't drive either, and resent having the privilege revoked, but I know that in CA you can regain your license at some point if you're on meds and seizure free for a period of time, and have a Dr's authorization. I'm fortunate to live in a major city where public transit is readily available, but I have to think twice if I want to run to Walgreen's or the grocery store. It's an inconvenience, to say the least. On trips, I'm now the navigator and have learned to read maps which is something my husband always did, so I lost a privilege and gained a new skill I'd never been able to do successfully (always lost, always taking the wrong turn). Best of luck to you.
