I have seizures and they affect my speech

Tue, 01/25/2005 - 16:10

Hi,

I am 33 years old and I have been having seizures now for about 3 years. It happened shortly after a toxic reaction to topomax. I was in the hospital for a week then and every since then I have had minor seizures off and on. When I do it affects my speech and I stutter bably and lose my thoughts and words. I feel so weird when this happens. I don't know anyone else like this. I have bipolar and dissociative identity disorder (multiple personality). I heard people with these illnesses can have seizures, I just don't know what type. I hate being like this. It makes me more depressed. I am getting so frustrated. I have two young boys and they don't understand why all of a sudden I loose my words or thoughts or I sound funny as they call it. My oldest one is 7 and he does ok. He helps me with my words and he answers the phone for me when I am having trouble talking. I just don't know what to do. My therapist wants to know more information about why it affects my speech but I have nothing to offer because I have been struggling to find information myself. Does anyone have suggestions?

My heart breaks reading all

Submitted by DrugFree on Tue, 2017-12-05 - 19:14
My heart breaks reading all these experiences and I'm angry. What is with the seizures, especially in young people suffering and yearning for a "normal life." And what's up with theses stupid doctors?! I too had a series of severe seizures following a cold turkey withdrawal from 17 prescribed drugs. After an induced coma and 2mths hospital stay, I was released but my speech became robotic, I sounded like StarWars R2D2 with abrupt starts n stops and broken up words. The frustration n anxiety increased my inability to communicate. The doctors did not warn me of this possible side effect nor did they offer an explanation. After aprx 1mth I recovered completely thru holistic medicine. I have been completely  pharmaceutical free for them last 2yrs!

Hi laura, my sister just stared having seizures about a month ago, after stopping her meds  cold turkey. Now when she had one it's been affecting her speech. I was wondering what you used holistically?? Thank you, Tammy

I don't know for sure what

I don't know for sure what mine is exactly, but it happens mainly when I'm at work. I have to read out a lot of information and multitask on computers a lot. It happens when I'm outside too. I'm unable to speak, I can't see and I get scared afterwards. They've only been happening for the past week or so and I don't know what to do...
