How long do YOU feel strange after a seizure?

Tue, 03/27/2012 - 23:32
I figured I would share my situation and how I am feeling with people who hopefully can relate, because I am a bit scared currently. I had my first seizure some 8 years ago and have been dealing with them ever since. I always have felt slightly strange after a seizure maybe 3 or 4 days after as though my head has released all kinds of memories and I am just sifting through them all and regaining my present self. I went seizure free for two years and thought maybe I had tamed this beast. Of course epilepsy wont go away that easily and I recently had two seizures over the course of 3 weeks. It has been about a week since the last one, and that feeling of released memories and vibes from the past has become overwhelming and I cannot seem to get back to feeling normal. I am very anxious, bouts of depression have been frequent, and nothing seems to make me feel normal, and I am getting scared that I never will feel so again. I am not sure what has happened, I just want to share this with you all and hope that somebody else can relate and let me know they have gone through this and come out ok in the end. Or maybe it is a personal demon I must combat. The question is posed for everybody, how long does it take you personally to start feeling normal again? Thank you.

Well I went 6 1/2 years

Well I went 6 1/2 years without a single seizure and then a few months back my neurologist told me the eeg showed no seizure activity and told me I could get off the medication if I wanted to. So I decided to give it a shot and I am regretting that decision fully because Monday 2 days after stopping the medication after weening myself off for a month I had 2 seizures in a half hour time frame. For me that isn't unusual though I was use to having 2 to 3 seizures 3 to 4 times a week grandmal seizures. I am now back on the pills and I'm never listening to any doctor again about getting off of them because clearly there is still seizure activity these pills just work very well. My entire body is sore which is normal for this type of thing since usually you tense up uncontrollably. It is now Wednesday 2 days after the 2 seizures and I feel off I feel a little depressed mainly because now I know after all these years it took me to feel normal I find out that I'll never be normal my brain will always be broken and the only thing keeping me from having the seizures is the medication. I'll probably feel depressed about this for a while seeing as 6 1/2 years is a long time to not deal with them then finding out I still have them after all these years. I kind of feel like death is following me at the same time and I can't seem to get rid of that feeling. I am just glad my boyfriend was here when it happened and he had a friend who had seizures and an ex girlfriend so he knew how to deal with the situation. He also didn't panic which my grandmother use to do all the time which then in turn made me panic a lot more while being out of it because I literally thought I was going to die so I would end up panicking and crying. But this time that didn't happen at all because he wasn't panicking so I felt safer. Seizures no matter what kind suck some people recover faster than others so it really depends on the person how long the feeling will last for. But also try to not let it control your life the more you panic the more stressed you'll be and then the more likely you'll have another one. Just try to think of happy thoughts and stay relaxed if you do that even though I know how hard that is to do during that time then the feeling should go away sooner.

Thank you.
