Getting into the military with epilepsy.

Tue, 03/25/2008 - 17:45
Hello, I tried to get into the Army when I was 18 but they denied me because they couldn't guarentee that I would or could get my medication on a daily basis!  It makes sense!  Now my 17 year old son has plans of joining the Navy.  I've told him what I went through and what they told me but he's already talked to recruiters that have told him that he could get in.  Do different branches have different rules for enlistment?  I've already made my son promise me that he wouldn't enlist until after Bush is out, but Bush has created such a mess it's going to take years to clean up his mess and to get our troops out safely!  My son's grades aren't good and I've already been told that the Navy won't take him unless he has at least a C average, so that sets my mind at ease!  Does anybody have any first hand knowledge regarding getting into the armed forces with E.

I started having seizures

I started having seizures when I was 10.5 years old. I grew up wanting to be an Air Force Fighter Pilot flight that wanted to fly F-16's and I still wish I could fly them. The other things I wish I could do is be a Policeman, Fireman, Detective or a Hockey Player but of course people who have Epilepsy can't do many things. I grew up have 1-8 grand mal seizures a day for about 18 years or so but now I only have about 3-5 absence seizures a month now. But we should be able to work for more just as many places and everyone else. I've been laid off of 3 of the 4 jobs I've had over the years. But because of me being laid off for just having only 1 seizure on the job I started Volunteering at a hospital ER, EMU, PT(Physical Therapy Unit) and Transportation 12 and a half years ago. Now I only Volunteer at the hospital ER and EMU now.Whet I live is a terrible place cause there is no Adult Epilepsy Unit here in our city yet so my mom and me are trying to start one up. Hopefully we can get one started and maybe start a company that helps hire people who have epilepsy. If you have bad epilepsy where I live, the chances of you being hired are very slim to none.
