Epilepsy and PAnic Attacks

Tue, 01/23/2007 - 18:24
Hi, I've lived with Epilepsy 21 years but it's only been over the past 2-3 years that i've started with panic attacks. I know they're panic attacks and not fits as they aren't the same mass of emotion as my seizures. This has started a vicious circle as my panic attacks bring on my fits and vice versa!!! Has anyone had this problem? Luv Edwina X

Hi there...I've been having seizure auras for the whole entire week this week. It's driving me to insanity I tell you. I e-mailed my doctor about it and he asked me if anything like being sick could have caused it. I'm not sick, but I've been under stress...although many times when I was under stress I didn't get hit with a seizure or aura. So, I don't understand why now? As for panic attacks...doesn't that just go hand in hand with being a seizure patient? Whenever I feel a seizure aura...my body just go on overdrive on me. I can't control the rate of my heart beat 'coz I'm freaking out. People tell me to relax, but how can anyone relax knowing that a seizure is about to errupt? I had panic attacks for 14 years before I was diagnosed with TLE. My EEG didnt change from the first one done in 91 compared to 05, when I had my first grand mal. Since my grand mal, my "panic attacks" have changed in feeling and degree. For me only being diagnosed for the past 2 years, I think my change in "attacks" have been the meds. My meds have been an up and down battle. Dean

I'm 18 & have Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy..i had a grand mal before but the only people who saw it were my parents b/c it was at home.. in class the other day a girl in my class was dizzy, walked into the glass window and passed out on the floor..i wasn't that "shocked" b/c im pretty much obsessed with medical stuff and thought it was pretty interesting (is that bad?!)..after she was wheeled out of the class however, my teacher started telling a story about how she had a student who had a seizure in her class once. During the story a lot of people were laughing about what she was telling them about the seizure (the noises, what he looked like, etc) and I started to feel pretty uncomfortable b/c I always wonder what would happen if i had a seizure in class...never had a panic attack before but i think i had one then--I couldn't stop shaking and breathing was like an effort, i couldn't focus on working on my school work and ALL i could think about was "don't have a seizure dont have a seizure" and what would happen if i did, i was like freaking out and having muscle spasms all down the sides of my back, and my arms..i never felt like i was "going to die" like a lot of ppl w/ panic attacks say, but i def had a big big fear that i was just going to have a seizure right then and there... is this definately a panic attack or was that just a natural reaction?? aghh
