Seizures in utero?

Tue, 07/05/2005 - 13:47

When I was pregnant at about 7months, I complained to my doctor that I would feel rhytmic motions during the day in my womb.  They felt like small flutters, very rhytmic and frequent (not like when the baby would kick me) and they would go away and come back almost each day. The doctor even felt my stomach when it was happening, and said that it's possible the baby had "hiccups."  During this time, I was also checked for maternal diabetes and was told that the "baby" was causing the problem and I was not diabetic.  When my daughter developed a stroke at 4months (later infantile spasm) and hypoglycemia, I was asked about any distress during pregnancy and told the neuro about the hiccups.   He said it was possible the baby was seizing in the womb already and the hiccups were seizures.  Did anyone else have this or similar type of experience during pregnancy?

Hello. I am currently almost 32wks pregnant; at about 29wks I started to feel the shaking or even quivering everyone has been talking about. Last Thursday at a ultrasound I actually SAW it while it was happening.....before I saw this I was convinced the motions I were experiencing were from me, like uterine spasms from having Braxton Hicks Contractions or even just my muscles stretching & my uterus “preparing” for my little one to be born..... seeing his arms and chest even his head flailing, making those motions made me second guess & instantly become curious.. I still feel it at least once a day. It didn’t last long on the screen & they usually don’t any other time but I can’t get that image out of my head.... the gal I was with who performed the ultrasound was a sonographer in training at a college facility (the ultrasound was me volunteering for her so she could get additional measurements & practice she needed for her classes) she had no idea what had happen either & was just as much in shock as me. There was no one else there to of even been able to ask. Of course it happen AFTER my dr appointment that was on Tuesday. I’ve been advised by a few people I spoke to, to consult with my drs office & I’m going to, I honestly am kind of worried she won’t take it seriously. Or that when I go to the drs office they do a ultrasound, it doesn’t happen on the screen for them to see.... I feel like she might think I’m just being paranoid because things are different.....but I’m also worried, what if it’s something that could effect my delivery! Could something that’s “nothing’s” cause distress on him while I’m in labor? This is my 3rd kiddo but before this pregnancy....my kids are 12 & 9......it’s been awhile. Even with that, I NEVER had this with either of them & I’ve felt hiccups with this little one, this feeling is no where NEAR the same feeling....I’ve even watched videos of hiccups in utero, not the same motions his body made.  I know things have changed since my last pregnancy/kid but I didn’t have anything like this & the fact I saw it makes it more embedded in my brain...
