Quality of life, seizure rescue

Mon, 02/28/2005 - 11:47
I was reading a thread and someone mentioned seizure rescue. I have taken cpr many times, but never really heard of "seizure rescue". My son is 10, has had grand mal seizures in different periods. sometimes several a month, or none for 2 years. I don't get it. All I know is I am now scared to let him do anything. His father, my ex, has NEVER taken cpr. This makes me nervous. He takes 150 mg of topamax 2 x daily as well as carbatrol 300mg 2 x daily. He has a great-great grandfather that had epilepsy. Only link that I know of. Started febrile, then progressed. I pray he grows out of them, but so far no. I need advice, thinking of changing doctors. Doctor doesnt' object to child being on back of a street motorcycle. I also have let him ride a dirtbike, but it doesn't go 60, and he has FULL gear, and it's in DIRT. Now I won't let him, he has had 2 seizures in 2 months. I am scared he will get hurt. A bicycle fall was bad enough with a seizure.

Here are a few links to safety information you and your family may find useful. For first-aid classes you may contact the Red Cross or your local epilepsy foundation.
