Has anyone ever hired a personal driver?

Sun, 02/06/2005 - 00:22
My fiancee was diagnosed w/ partial complex seizures approximately 8 mos ago. We are on medicine #3 and have made little progress. I know I don't have to tell you all how frustrated we are. Maybe our biggest problem at the moment is the driving. My fiancee is afraid he might lose his job. Has anyone ever hired a driver? If so, where do you find such a person? Any idea how much it may cost? Any info would be tremendously appreciated. Thanks so much.cp

HelloI was a home health nurse, had my knee replaced about 10 years ago and couldn't drive for about 6 weeks (this was pre-epilepsy). So, I asked the newly retired school teacher father of a friend of mine if he'd drive me and I'd pay him per home health visit I made. He said yes and I was ecstatic because I couldn't find anyone. He is a very warm, mature, calm man with a large car for my crutches etc. YIKES!I think my best advice after that experience is to take a test run before obligating. This wonderful man was the worst driver I've ever driven with, or at least in the top 10. I surely wore off half the enamel on my teeth and nearly stomped a hole through his floor "putting on the brakes". His driving certainly took my mind off of the severe pain in my knee! I didn't want to hurt his feelings or ruin a friendship with my friend either. It became a sticky situation.Since then I've lived in 3 communities both medium and small and I've found almost every community has some way to help with transportation. Hospitals, doctor offices, police stations and for whatever reason the hospital phone operators are a plethora of community information. I've found community vans, right now volunteers that will drive me 45 minutes both ways to the city if I give a call ahead of a few days and pay the gas. It seems to me this is a recognized need and most communities, at least the ones I've lived in are meeting it.Ingrid
