Is an elevated body temp common during a seizure
Mon, 04/14/2014 - 11:2918 year old nephew had a full blown seizure out of the blue. Never had one before. His dad said that he was burning up to touch while this was going on. He was hospitalized overnight and then discharged with the hospital saying that they would set up appointments with experts in the next little while. He did have a brain scan which showed no injury or tumors. So right now we are in limbo but I am wondering if the elevated body temp is common with epilepsy or could this be something else? I know no one here can diagnose but we are searching for help as we wait.
Getting warm during a seizure

Getting warm during a seizure can happen because during most convulsive seizures the muscles are very active, it is basically like a strong workout. So the body temp can go up similar to if someone were exercising. Keep in mind that seizures are not necessarily the same as epilepsy. One can have a seizure, say from head trauma, and then never have one again. This would not be epilepsy. For now it sounds like your nephew had one (observed) seizure without a clear reason why. Hopefully they can figure it out. Good luck.
