Abnormal EEG while sleeping but no seizures
Fri, 12/12/2014 - 22:38My son is 5. He just got home from a 48 hour EEG. His first EEG showed spikes in the occipital lobe while sleeping. But it wasn't meshing with all his symptoms, mainly some issues getting to the bathroom in time/going frequently. He had a few headaches and he occationally has issues focusing in school. So the 48 hour EEG showed the same spikes during sleep. Daytime activity is completely normal. Doctor says he's not having seizures because there's no aura. So then...what is it? She didn't want to medicate him to treat his EEG (I agree). She then proceeded to tell me my son may be developing ADHD because he attends a public school online. (I don't see what his schooling has to do with an attention disorder or with why we were investigaing this abnormality further.) I am trying to tell myself "it's not a big deal and he will grow out of it" but I am having a lack of closure. And my initial complaints are still not solved. Any suggestions? Just trying to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Joanna pediatric neurologists

Joanna pediatric neurologists do alot. I know they help in many ways. However unless she specializes in epilepsy she may not know everything she needs to know. I haven't had an aura EVER but I do have Gand mal epilepsy Petite mal Epilepsy and Focal motor epiepsy. An abnormality to a neurologist specializing in epilepsy woulf be seizure activity. If the neurologist specializes in AHDH it would lead them to ADHD activity. ALHZ would be viewed by specialists in ALHZ. Before neurologists went into specialities a neurologist was all that was needed since they took care of everything comming from the central nervious system. The headaches, some staring, and the incontinence issues Call the neurologist and ask one specific question. Are yo ua specialist in epilepsy? A yes or no question. My neurologist specializes in epilepsy be they kids or older like me. I have had the same group of neurologists since 1970. After the neurologists started specializing Doc introduced me to the neurologist I was going to be with since he started specializing in ALHZ. Another specialized in Parkinsons. So being with the group I have known some things that happen and unless she specialized in epilepsy she does not know everything associated with it. With the post you posted she thinks all seizures have auras. Well I have had epilepsy for 50+ years and in that time nay different seizures. But I have neve had an aura.
