My son has had his last 3 seizures on 3 Thrusdays in a row

Thu, 08/20/2009 - 15:53

Hi... I'm a mom of a 14year old.  He had his first seizure June 5 in the evening playing a laptop game...

He has had 6 more seizures over the summer.  The 3 have been the last 3 thursdays... today, last thursday and the thursday before... and actually the one before that was the thursday 2 weeks before... Is that weird????

He is on Lamictal XR.  At a dose of 300mg nightly.  He has only been at 300mg for 5 days.  How long does it take to get to the max dose in your blood?  The Dr just prescribed Klonopin at .5mg at bedtime today...

I'm looking for any info... thanks

a concern/scared mom...

Hi,

It might be a coincidence, a stressful day, etc.

But it could be also now that he knows that it happens on Thursday, he sees you worried, he sees you behaving differently and he himself is already grown enough to freak out on Thursdays because it seems like THE day. Honestly, if there is no particular activity on Thursdays that could make him seize, I suggest all the family tries to relax and show him that there is no reason for him to seize.

Some meditation exercises might also work great.

Best wishes,

Ola

Is he getting less sleep on Wednesdays? Is the family more rushed on Thursday? Is there something that might be getting him less to drink at school/camp/home?

Routine is a big part of seizure control (says the totally irresponsible college graduate >_>) so I'd try calming down, making sure YOU aren't anticipating another seizure, and making sure he gets to bed on time, is well-hydrated and medicated properly and relaxed when he wakes up.
