Lamictal, JME, and B/C

Thu, 12/01/2016 - 19:07
I've read a lot of things on here about people with epilepsy and birth control horror stories but I felt like none really fit me and my epilepsy so I signed up to the board to ask my own question. I'm 26 years old and have been seizure free for 10 years (knock on wood). I'm on lamictal twice daily, 200mg each dose. As my title states, I have juvenile myoclonic epilepsy (I don't know what I'd call it now that I'm an adult). I've spoken to my neurologist, a pharmacist, and two OBGYNs. The neurologist said no to nexplanon because of hormones but wouldn't elaborate further on what I could consider. Both OBGYNs said nexplanon shouldn't be a problem and said IUDs are fine. The pharmacist states that Nexplanon is a no-go but that Skyla and Mirena (the IUDS) are options because the hormones are local and don't enter the bloodstream. As you can see, lots of information from multiple sources and I can't make heads and tails of it because people refuse to fully answer my questions. I'm getting the the copper one in tomorrow and I'm scared as all hell because ive heard about how badly it hurts going in. I know the pill and shot are out of the question because of med interactions. I was looking for personal experiences to see what you guys have gone through.
