Hormones, hormone changes, and periods

Mon, 10/24/2016 - 01:18
I've had epilepsy since I was 15. I have all different types of seizures. My trigger has been lack of sleep and alcohol. Starting a few years ago I began having dizziness, nausea, back pain and other symptoms around the time of my period. Doctor's have tried many treatments and think it is due to a hormone change sensitivity or thyroid issue. The last two years, I have also noticed I have absences, myoclonic jerks, and have even had grand mals all during the time of my period. I usually only have absences and occasionally the jerks. It's more rare to have a grand mal. I do not actually have my period anymore due to constantly being on birth control. I'm currently on Keppra and Lamictal for seizures, topamax for migraines, and lyrica for fibromyalgia. Does anyone have experience, advice, or treatments for hormonal seizures?

hormonal changes can affect the way some medications work. I may be a ,ale but I know they can since I had to have dosage adjustments made 4 times in about 6-8 months when I was changing from a brat to a teen. Now de[ending on which doctors you spoke of. Genera[[y a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy will confirm this information.
