Difficulties finding medications

Mon, 03/09/2015 - 15:01

Hi, I was doing well on Vimpat at 150mg. I have a seizure usually once a year or so but we were hoping to get rid of the seizures with medication. I tried all the 'usual' drugs. They all had terrible side effects- Vimpat didn't have many for me. I had one confusional migraine on Vimpat but uped the dose and then seemed fine. I had a seizure two days ago. Nothing was different except I was on my period (same as the migraine). I know that my seizures and period are linked but I am struggling to find a medication to help. I am also on a birth control medication to help control my period. I am feeling desperate and the doctors are having a hard time figuring out what to do with me.... Any advice? Thank you!

I've been taking Vimpat for a couple years and think it's a good med but usually when I would have a seizure it's around the time of my periods, another thing that I found out was that birth control can interfere with the seizure meds and cause you to have seizures. If you're still having seizures it could be because of the birth control, you should have your doctors get in contact with each other to see if these meds could be interfering with each other.

I agree. Try different birth

I agree. Try different birth control options. Condoms are generally the most uncomfortable compared to unprotected sex but are generally the most side effect free. I use ones that are latex, vegan, ultra thin, and do not include any spermicide or other poisons. I've known several girls that have had really bad experiences with birth control Rx's with some permanent effects on their health and/or fertility. Not worth the risk of problems for the convenience of not having to strap a rubber on in my opinion. I've also had seizures within 24 hours of performing oral sex on 2 occasions over the last year. I don't know if that is due to my multiple fractured vertebrae being reinjured and increased pain from it or from something about the sexual act itself. "Regular" sex has not been a problem and I've not had any seizure activity during sex of any kind.
