Depakote and Pregnancy

I have a 5 year old daughter who, although she is ok, has developmental delays due to the depakote I had to take for my seizures. I am still on the depakote since it has worked so well for me (I have JME). I want to have another baby in the near future but I want to get off of the depakote to ensure the baby's safety. I also take lamictal but it hasn't worked without the depakote. My last seizure was in 2008 and I wanted to know if anyone else had to take depakote during their pregnancy and did your child also have any health issues? I'm going to see my doctor in July and I want to ask him if we can switch me to a safer medication, he mentioned keppra before if we did. My life will have to change drastically, I won't be able to work or drive so I'm still thinking about it..but I just turned 30 and I really want another child, I just want to make sure I won't have to worry about depakote harming the baby.

Good attitude. I pray it will come for you. Can I ask what dose were you on when you had your daughter?

You might want to check with your neurologist on this issue. After going that long without a seizure they may be able to take you off all medications. If they can't he can tell you which medications are best when you want to bare another child...
