temporal lobe epilepsy

i've just been diagnosed with TLE, and i was wondering whether anyone else here has this? I find it really difficult to deal with, as i find it hard to think straight before, after, and during seizures. Loads of people describe the seizures as really pleasurable, but i hate them! i'm doing my A levels, but i've been missing a lot of school, because of my TLE. Besides meds, does cognitive behavioural therapy work? i had this before for depression, and found it helpful, but i don't know whether it would help me now. many thanks emma

Hi Emma, I have also recently been diagnosed with Temporal Lobe Epilepsy, as well as Right Frontal Lobe Epilepsy. I have also been missing quite a bit of School recently because my seizures make my muscles so sore that sometimes I can barely walk from the pain. I do not find my seizures to be pleasurable at all either! :( They are absolutely horrid, as I experience incontinence, drooling, jerking and also the confusion that you were talking about. I am afraid that I don't know very much about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but perhaps you could ask your Neurologist? If not, maybe you can just try the C.B.T. and see if it works? I'm really sorry that I can't give you much advice about it, but I just want you to know that I also have T.L.E. and understand exactly what you are talking about. Good luck and I hope that your seizures improve!

Here is some info on Cognative Behavioural Therapy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cognitive_therapy IMO, most with epilepsy need it to learn to cope as having E has psychological effects as well as the physical. Will you nix TLE with cognative therapy? No. But you will learn how to cope. If one has TLE, today surgery is also possibility. One that is known to nix 70-75% of cases of epilepsy. ~sol
