helping a friend going into brain surgery
Tue, 03/12/2013 - 12:21Hi, my name is Paige I've been searching through online epilepsy support groups all morning. My really close friend has severe epilepsy. He's at the end of the line on experimental drugs and now his doctors want to try brain surgery to remove the part of the brain where the seizures are coming from. We live in a very seculded rural area so he doesn't have many people to talk to. I was just wondering if anyone here 1. had any experience or knowledge on the surgery or 2. if you believe this is a good place for him to start chatting on.
Thank you for all your help

Paige,
A lot of what you're looking for will depend on which area of the brain is the seizure focus. I've had temporal lobe surgery and have detailed my experiences here:

Hi, I am new here too. How good of a friend you are. May God bless you for supporting your friend. If you look through the forums, there are several treads that talk about surgery. The very little that I know is that some people get excellent results and they can even stop taking medication altogether and finally be free. I heard that there is some rehabilitation and speech theraphy involved afterwards. To a small portion, surgery seems no relief, but that is in rare cases with very resistant epilepsy. Again, I know nothing, mmy son has not been diagnosed yet, but it all pints to JME. Good luck to you and your friend.
