Who to see?

Sun, 11/30/2014 - 11:11

I had my first seizure (nocturnal, tonic/clonic) in May of this year, a 2nd nocturnal in July, a 3rd nocturnal in October, and on 11/26 I had my first daytime seizure while at work. The Neurologist I saw put me through a host of test (May - July) and all came back with good results. The only seizure he is aware of is the first because I refused to believe (kind of still do) that I have a problem with my brain and the seizures also seemed to be getting less severe as time went on.

Regarding this last seizure, I was having a relaxed conversation with an employee I supervise about Holiday plans when all of the sudden my chest felt very tight. I remember putting my hands to my chest and thinking I need to breath. The next thing I recall is seeing a cute paramedic standing infront of me in my office. After a few minutes the squad took me to the ER, they MRI'd my head (was ok), had me hooked up to the ekg, took blood and urine...all came back ok and I was released in a matter of hours.I have experienced this tightness many times before ( left pec area) over the course of this year but they always passed without issue. As the tightness subsides throughout the day there are times when I feel a slight burning sensation under my left clavicle and most recently near my left armpit.  I have also felt odd sensations in my chest over the years but never really gave it much thought. I don't know if all of this is epilepsy or cardio trouble, all I know is its starting to get worrisome.

So my questions is, should I see the Neuro, my Primary Care doc, or find a Cardiologist?

First let me give yo ua

First let me give yo ua little information... Epilepsy is more common than Parkinsons, Alzh and strokes all combined. ! in 25 people will have a seizure issue at some time in their lives HMMMMMMMMMMM You did not tell your neurologist about any seizures other then the one he knew about. You also thiink that your brain can have nothing wrong with it. So according to you you know more about your brain then doctors who went to school to help people with issues dealing with electrical imopulses going off wrong in their brain. That is all a seizure is. An electrical impulse going off wrong in the brain. Which causes a chain reaction. As for the tests that were run. They are run to see where in your brain those impulses are going off. You may not know it but the neurologist does know that the EEG can only read the electrical impulses to a certain depth which means it can't read impulses going off wrong in the middle of the brain. Now do you know what can cause epilepsy? Well an abnormal groth in the brain. Many people can have those and nothing happens. My epilepsy is caused by scared brain tissue. Which happened after birth. That information was found out after weeks of testing. I had 20-25 different EEG's all came back normal. Spinal tap and a neuro-angreogram (the MRI of the 60's) also came back mormal. The last test they did was another EEG. In that EEG I fell asleep because I was drained because of all the testing. In that EEGthey saw abnormalities (seizure activity). So they saw electrical impulses going off wrong. With the information from the EEG the neurologists looked closer at the neuro-angeogram in the area the impulse came from. With the closer look they found the scar tussie.  The scar tissue was caused by a hemmorage to the brain. That hemmorage was caused by a blow to the head. So have yo uever been hit in the head??There are many different types of seizures and in some types tight chests can be found. However tight chests can be a cardio issue too. You see I do know that it can come from both seizures and a heart problem. Since I also have A-fib.  The first person I would be talking to if this were me would be your neurologist. I would also tell him about the other seizures you have had. I say that because I also know that a persons seizures can get worse if not treated.  I started having seizures a year or so from the time I had my grand mal seizure. I had been written up for day dreaming in class. Well those day dreams could have been 2 different seizures. One being petite mal. Todays absence seizures. The other seizure could have been a focal seizure. If you read the different types of seizures it even says that they can and do look alike. If after talking to the neurologist you think he might still be wrong then contact yur doctor and discuss this matter with him. Let him also know what the neurologist said. If he thinks the neurologist is wrong or the neurologist told yo uto contact your doctor (yes a neurolgist can and will have you check with your doctor) they may both want yo uto be checked out by a cardiologist. As far as the ER and what they do... The MRI or a CTscan is always done as are blood tsts and urin tests along with a EKG. You see I have been there done that several times and when I was in the ER they said nothing about my irregualr heat beat. The ER has some good doctors but their primary jb is getting people fixed up so they can take care of the next emergency. I hope this helps and you do get the assistance you need Joe
