Twitching

Thu, 05/26/2016 - 21:14
Hey there. I'm a fourteen-year-old female. For a very long time, I've had these "twitches". My head feels tingly and then my left arm and head twitch a little bit. They happen two or three times a day. Sometimes when I hear noises that make me uncomfortable, I twitch. That doesn't happen very often though. I can almost stop them, but I still visibly twitch a bit. I've heard about myoclonus and I could have that, but I've heard of something called "psychogenic muscle movement" and that's caused by some psychological disorders. I may be autistic and I've heard of autistic people twitching like I do. I just need advice because if this is serious, I'll need to tell my parents in case this gets worse and turns into a big seizure. I'm a little bit worried about that.

SEE A NEUROLOGIST ASAP!!! I've had those same twitches since I was in middle school or high school and they always came in the morning right after I woke up but my primary doctor just said it was my nervous system waking up in the morning which kind of makes sense. Long story short, I ended up having a grand-mal seizure in the shower on my 18th birthday. It turned out that the whole time I had epilepsy and so many years of not being on medication lead up to that seizure.I'm not sure about the whole autism thing having to do with it so I would honestly see a doctor now before a seizure does happen! Also, keep calm, the more you get worked up the higher your blood pressure gets and the more likely you'll have one.I hope this helps!
