Seizures? Something else?

Hi everyone. I need some insight! Last month I woke up on my right side. Almost instantly upon waking my eyes started to move back and forth really quick. I was seeing stars. My mouth was stuck open, tongue to the roof of my mouth it seemed. I could not speak although I wanted to call hubbys name out. My right arm was shaking (possibly left but can't remember), I remembered I was trying to move but couldn't, I think I had my right leg drawn up and I was pushing my head into my pillow. This didn't last long, the eyes stopped and then the shking stopped. I then freaked out, gasped for air and kinda rolled over on my belly flailing my arms. I got up and I was sweaty and felt weird. The next day I felt weird too, kinda spacey or something. Thinking back in the past I had the eye thing happen, but not with the shaking. I've also woke shaking like that. Its like electrical or I feel it in my bones it's nothing I've felt before, it's odd. A few days later I woke with my legs shaking weirdly and it stopped seconds after waking. I had a ct scan done- all clear. I had an EEG done today. The neuro said that he isn't sure what I had is a seizure. He asked how my eyes were moving I said it felt like back and forth. Then he explained it could have been both eyes back and forth, one eye, or were they rhythemically jerking, etc. Which at that point I said gee I dont know, it could have been any of those!! I just remember they were moving and I couldn't stop it just like I couldn't stop the shaking and I couldn't speak! He said my EEG came back with some spikes and towards the end with some slowing. He said the spikes cuold be artifact. What all that means I dont know. He wants me to do the 24 EEG. My aunt who has a daughter who has several seizures a day said it sounds like a seizure to her. She isnt a doc though! The doc said it would be good if my hubby could witness it. My hubby sleeps like a rock. If I CAN wake him, 99% of the time the next morning he doesn't remember. I literally think I could fall out of bed and he wouldn't know. One other thing I want to mention is that sometimes when waking at night I 'see' things. It can be static...it can be a person, weird stuff. I also wake with headaches a few times a month. Thanks for reading!

Hey there ninjagirl. You should definitely mention the other things you sometimes see at night, and I encourage you to go to www.epilepsy.com, then click on the left hand column where it says "ALL ABOUT EPILEPSY AND SEIZURES", then continue expanding the selections with the plus marks and read especially about simple and complex partial seizures, sensory seizures and so on. Since seizures are just periods of increased electrically activity somewhere in the brain, they are really different from person to person depending on where in the brain they take place, etc. But visual hallucinations can be one manifestation. Plus lots of people have seizures only in their sleep, or only when waking up, etc. I only have them when awake as far as I know. If you do take a little time and see if any of that stuff on www.epilepsy.com sounds familiar, it might help you be ready to ask your doctor some questions and give him info he needs to help you. I recommend keeping a calendar or notebook too so you can see if there are patterns. Now that I am on meds, I only really have simple partials when I am both sleep deprived and on my period. Ask your doc where the spikes and slowing on the EEG were: i.e., in your temporal lobe, frontal lobe, occipital...could be helpful for you to narrow down on articles to read. Good luck, and keep posting on this great website! :)
