Seizures just started

Hi just a little background. Back in December I fell walking with my friend. One minute I was walking the next I was on the ground. My friend thought I was dead because I fell and hit the ground and bounced but I was ok. A few days later the left side of my face went numb and it didn't change. I went to the doctor and they sent me for an MRI which came back clear and they said it was nothing, that a nerve was probably pinched. I had no other symptoms until February when I had an "episode" while eating dinner with some friends. I was very confused when my brain started to come back. I didn't know anything had happened and I was groggy. The EMT's that showed up asked a whole bunch of questions and some I could answer and some I couldn't. I went to the hospital and was given a head CT that showed nothing. The attending physician said I had suffered transient global amnesia, which I already knew was stupid. I was groggy for about 15 minutes after the incident and I was clear upon reaching the hospital. I still do not know if I had a stroke along with a seizure or not. I was fine for the next few weeks. I saw a neuro in March and he said he was confused and did not know exactly what was going on. He sent me for an EEG and before I had that done I had several 20 second "episodes" and he placed me on Keppra stating that I was definitely having seizures. Last week I had a second major episode that lasted almost 3 minutes and the ER contacted my neuro for the results of the EEG which showed epileptic problems. The doctors believe I have temporal lobe epilepsy but how does this happen? I have had another 1 minute seizure and some more 20 second ones. Has anyone else had this happen? If I had a TIA back in December could this cause epilepsy from that point? I am worried that I have something else wrong with me that is causing the seizures. I cannot drive and I have no warning when I have one. I just stop talking or stare off into space and my face twitches. I have no recollection of the event when it is over and usually have a bad headache and am very groggy. I do not sleep well. I move a lot in my sleep to the point that I am in a semi dream state where i know I am rolling and shifting but am not completely awake. If anyone has had similar problems what did they figure out for you? Scared, please help

To start with "Anybody at

To start with "Anybody at anytime can get epilepsy" You had a mini stroke back in December. It may or may not be the cause but only a neurologist that specializes in epilepsy can answer that question. The fall while walking with your friend could have been a drop seizure. The MRI came back clear. But did they know what they might be looking for since a brain cell that didn't form right could also be a cause for seizures? Pinched nerves can cause many different things so that doctor was going by what he knew. What you posted about your dinner episode could be another type of seizure.  EMT's ask questions and ER's do tests that are common a Scan is one of them along with a ECG. Yes amnesia can be considered since in many different seizures the person in them loses consciousness and remembers next to nothing. The foggy feeling is after a seizure feeling. I call it getting back to normal which for me lasted 15-45 minutes depending on the length of time in the seizure. The neurologist was taking in all the information from all your episodes and they can be confusing especially if the ER and other doctors had other things written down on your chart.. He had you take a EEG which is a brain wave test showing the electrical output coming from your brain. HE saw you in the episodes and placed you on keppra So he knew they were seizures and keppra is one of the go to medications for seizure control. The EEG results showed seizure activity. The doctors believe you have temperal lobe epilepsy. Which means the seizure activity came from one of your temporal lobes.Relax there may not be anything else wrong causing your seizures. The start of a seizure is "An electrical impulse hitting wrong in your brain" The seizure itself is the chain reaction caused by that electrical impulse hitting wrong".  Think about the EKG or ECG it is a test showing the electrical activity in your heart. Basically the same things happen in those tests. Irregular heart beats show up. There is no cause for them. They can change over a period of time into A-fib. I know been there done that SO I take medications for that to.What can cause an electrical impulse to hit wrong? any different things. Fro me it is scared brain tissue. It was caused from a blow to my head causing a concussion which caused a hemorrhage to my brain which caused the scar tissue to form. For others it might be a brain cell that grew wrong. For others there is nothing found even on the EEG. Go to the help section on this site and you can research the types of seizures, Also look at the triggers One of which is lack of sleep. Another is stress. It takes time but both can be managed. Now for Keppra. It is the best medication I have ever used for seizure control. It reduced the number of seizures I was having from a few a week to 1 every 8-14 days. I shortened the time in those seizures to a few seconds when they used to last 5-8 minutes. The time after my seizures used to be 15-48 minutes and now it is 2-8 seconds. I can have a seizure today while discussing an issue with you and you would know nothing about it. My PCP didn't know I had a seizure while in a visit to him because I broke my toe.You may research medications and you will find all kinds of posts about all kinds of medications. Most will be from people who has issues from side effects. true they all have side effects. But it takes time for your body to get used to the medication. During that time period (2-8 weeks) is when your body is building up the therapeutic levels the neurologist wants. Five to eight % of the people taking a medication will get side effects of some kind or another. So all those posts you read about the medication being bad or not working like it was supposed to was written by 5-8% of the people taking it. Which leaves 92-95% of the people taking it having no problems and the medication is controlling their seizures. So relax and listen to the neurologist. Also talk to all your doctors and inform them of all the medications you take because medications for one thing can counter medications for another. They need to know because your health is their concern and without knowing everything they lack information.I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need and the keppra controls your seizuresJoe
