Seizure changes. Why???????????

Wed, 11/08/2006 - 18:52
Hi my name Sue and I'm new to Epilepsy.com. I want to tell my story and see if there's anyone else out there that has gone through the same thing or is going through the same thing. I was dignoised with epilepsy when I was 12 years old. At that time I was having auras followed by the blank stares. When I was pregnant with both my children I went completely off my medecine (which happened to be Dilantin at that time) and expeirenced no seizures at all. After birth I started having them again. Then when I turned 37 I started having auras followed by a grand mal seizure. Now at age 45 I'm starting to have seizures with no warning and that scares me to death! You never know when one is going to happen. What my question is is why my seizures are changing for the worse. Do they keep getting worse or in time can they start getting better and the aura returing? I am now taking Lamictal and the doctor is still playing around with my doses to try to get it right.

Hey Sue how are you? I'm 21

Hey Sue how are you? I'm 21 yrs old and have only been diagnosed with epilepsy in the past 3 months. My seizures started off with just absence seizures, then increased to complex partial and simple partial seizures (with warning before hand i.e. an aura), but the other day I had a complex partial seizure with no warning at all which was bloody scary! I was just walking along the street and then the next thing I know I'm down the other end of the street, covered and sweat and bloody confused! It's pretty scary when it happens and the only advice I can give you is just stay positive. I read one ladies story on another website and when she had a complex partial seizures for some reason she ran out into the street and stripped utterly naked and when she came around she had no idea what had happened - so when I'm feeling down I always think "well at least I havent got it that bad!". Anyway if you ever want to talk just drop me a line, take care and I hope things sort themselves out for ya mate!

I've never heard of auras going away all together, but I didn't discover I had any until I was about 13. I've had mine since I was 7, so that's about thirty years now. I have exsperienced seizures changing some. I've had Grand mal since I first began to have them, and when I hit 20 I had the first of what some have come to call a sleepwalking seizure. I've only talked with a few who have experienced it. I myself have had two brain surgeries for it. which the last did help alot. With the sleep walking seizures it seems that if you start to have one you may be at one place waiting for one to come on, and when you actually come to you are in a totally different place. Two of mine happened like that I believe cause I was doing something and on my way to sit or lay down when it hit. My subcounsious seemed to take over and do what it pleased until I came out of it. I'm new to this group also and joined so I could talk with people who understands the condition I have. I figured I could chat, email, or talk with a few people like this. I figured having them for thirty years I might could help some out, and learn a few things myself along the way. If you'd like to email me I can be reached at nightman30471@yahoo.com I hope this help or maybe gave you some type of information. M.T.D.

I've never heard of sleepwalking seizures. That's something new to me. At least you know when yours are going to happen (at night). I keep trying to look for some kind of pattern, but as soon as I think I have one it changes. Right now the last three had have been two hours after I wake up no matter what time it is when I get up. If it would only stay the same it would make it a lot easier to plan things. Thanks for your input.
