Question about Tonic Clonic

Fri, 07/28/2006 - 11:48
First of all, thankyou to everyone on this forum, you all have helped me to realize I have been dealing with siezures for many years but didn't know about it until I had two massive Tonic Clonics and was actually diagnosed. I would "black out" for a couple of seconds, sometimes during conversations, loosing track of what was being said or what I was saying, it felt like I was falling down, very unsettling feeling, the good thing is I haven't experienced this since I started my meds. I still "zone out" sometimes (here but not) sort of thing. My primary question though is: Has anyone out there who has been having the Tonic Clonics always getting the auras before they happen? What about "voiding" after (I know this is hard to talk about, but my inlaws are telling me that I am not having T.C's if I am not voiding after). As for the auras, I don't know, I can't remember if I even have one. Is there any one else out there experiencing something similar? Please respond.

I've only had one Grand Mal, but I did not void after it. The ER doctor seemed extremely surprised that I did not. The woman who did my EEG said that not everyone does. I'm not sure if I had an aura or not. About 5 minutes before my seizure, I had this strange sensation of not knowing where I was, or why I was there. Then, I was talking with my friend and my next conscious memory is being on the stretcher and the EMT telling me they were taking me to the hospital because I had a seizure. From all the research I have done, not everyone voids after. And, even though I didn't on the one that I did have, I may if I have another one. Unfortunately, this is not necessarily a consistant condition. Good luck to you, Ginger

Hi ALH re: I still "zone out" sometimes (here but not) sort of thing That is a simple partial seizure - http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_simplepartial.html Look under psychic.. there it lists the many ways a simple partial can appear/feel Simple partial seizures are also 'auras' when they occur immediately before another seizure type... and, with simple partials, the memory remains, so you would know if you had one. Here is a page on Tonic Clonics and no aura is mentioned = it isn't necessary. And as epilepsy.com is made by physicians, you can tell your relatives the content is accurate. http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_tonicclonic.html Hope that helps ~sol

Hi Alh= I have had only one really textbook T/C to my knowledge. I have had quite a few but only one had a strange yell before with a smell aura a few minutes before that. I went tonic, passed out then went Clonic and the lost bladder control. My daughter was present through the whole thing. Others don't have auras or I don't yell or I don't lose bladder control. On all I have gone unconcious. Hope this helps Hugs Joan
