I had petimal epilepsy as a child, later on I developed temporal lobe, I never really paid attention to the effects and care of this condition as I feel I deal with it quiet well. Today I was hit with quiet a shock to find out that my 14 year old daughter has temporal lobe epilepsy, I had no idea it was genericaly transfered. I now want to find out as much as I can about temporal lobe.

Information about genetic aspects of epilepsy is growing everyday. While some forms do appear to have clear genetic links, othertimes the tendency to have seizures may run in families but not be cleary linked to gene problem. Lots of places doing gene research now in epilepsy, and many are looking for families to learn more about certain seizure types. Here are a few links you may find helpful. You can also search for recent research articles on genetic aspects by doing search from home page of epilepsy.com www.epilepsy.com/101/ep101_inherited.html www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/epilepsy_temporallobe.html www.epilepsyfoundation.org/research/genediscovery/index.cfm Hope this helps! You've certainly come to the right place for information. I've never seen a site so informative and user friendly as here. When I was diagnosed with TLE everyone in family thought I was just unlucky until they started speaking with both grandmothers, come to find out it was quite prevelant in generations past, it seemed to have skipped the last generation and hit me head on. Neurolgist told me that genetics do not necessarily have alot to do with people getting it, but they can't rule it out either.
