Newly Diagnosed -- Now what?

I'm a 33 year old woman, diagnosed a couple days ago with temporal lobe seizure disorder. Last Monday, I had what I thought was a fainting spell due to heat. A trip to the doctor prompted an CT, MRI and EEG. EEG revealed seizure activity in the right and left temporal lobes. I was put on Keppra (500mg twice per day) and sent home. I guess my first question is, is it possible that the EEG showed a false positive and perhaps they are wrong about the diagnosis? Should I ask for a second opinion?

Yes, I was admitted into the hospital and it was a neurologist who read the EEG and diagnosed me. I go back for my follow up with him Monday. I was hoping perhaps there was a possibility that the seizure activity on the EEG was something else. I have had a couple more episodes since being home. How long does it take for Keppra to start working?

Thank you so much for all the info. It's made me feel much better about the situation. I'm kind of scared to death right now. It helps to read about people who have been there. I woke up this morning feeling much more in touch, if that make sense. I don't have that cut out feeling I've had for the last week. Hopefully, it's a sign the Keppra is working!

It's important that you're comfortable with the diagnosis...and it's helpful to question. If you have any second thoughts or questions, get a second opinion. A diagnosis like this will change your life and you ought to be comfortable and confident about the diagnosis.
