New and Scared

On Saturday, July 15, 2017 I had my first seizure. I am 24 years old, will be turning 25 in September, and have been experiencing episodes of intense vertigo, headaches, and overall not feeling well for about 10 months prior to the seizure. Let me give you some background. On April 17, 2014 I had rolled my car off of an old highway headed to a family get together. I was going about 100 KM per hour and fell asleep behind the wheel at 11 AM. I had not been drinking or up late the night before, I was just tired and it happened. I broke my left arm, sprained my right ankle, and clearly had some back whiplash and a "self diagnosed" concussion (because my doctors were more worried about the bones being in the wrong place in my arm). Fast-forward to this year: I had been referred to a neurologist back in March, after being taken to the ER by my boyfriend when a vertigo episode lasted longer than 36 hours. My neurologist had placed me on 3 medications for the "chronic migraines" and sent me for an MRI that came back clean. The medications were 1 mood stabilizer, and the other 2 were anti-epileptic drugs commonly used in treating migraine patients. I had not been on any of those medications longer than 1 week, as all three made the migraines worse, and more frequent. That is when my doctor talked to me about medical cannabis oil. I started the cannabis oil about 1 month before the seizure and everything seemed to be going great! The migraines were less frequent and less painful. I was actually having days when I didn't have a migraine or head pain at all. My sleep was phenomenal, I slept through the night for the first time in years multiple times, and my energy and spirits were higher than ever. And then, on July 15, I was extremely tired, so I went to bed a couple of hours before my boyfriend. He said i started making noises in the bedroom and he thought I was calling out to him, when he came in I was seized up, hands clawed, and foaming pink from the mouth. He did everything right, he called 911, rolled me onto my side, made sure nothing was around for me to hit and waited out the seizure while waiting for the ambulance. This was the scariest moment of my life, and if you remember I have rolled a car going 100 KM per hour into someones front yard. I remember opening my eyes, and still being in the seizure, unable to control the intense shaking of every limb in my body, unable to speak or move, and unable to determine where, or when I was, and who the man (my boyfriend) standing over me was. I heard him talking, saying things like "don't worry babe, the ambulance is almost here, everything will be fine" which honestly freaked me out even more. Why is there an ambulance coming? Who's hurt? and why can't I stop shaking uncontrollably? Would someone just turn on the damn heat? When we finally got to the hospital, I had completely come out of it, still dazed and confused but starting to make sense of what I was being told. So, here we are, 2.5 weeks later, still confused, still scared that it will happen again, and still not sure what to do. I was taken off the cannabis oil, and made to file a report with cannimed about the incident. My headaches have returned, my mood is off the charts with highs and lows, and I cannot seem to stop crying. I have an EEG scheduled for wednesday, and will be getting the results that Friday. There is only one person in my family who has epilepsy, and it is because he did not receive enough oxygen when he was born. There has been no history of seizures in my family. My insurance company has since stopped paying for treatments, and I am still fighting for my rights with them to keep paying until I am healed (As I still deal with whiplash and back pain from the accident). I am wondering if anyone knows of any stories of people who have gone through similar situations or have any words of wisdom for me. Thanks for reading !

You may have a predisposition

You may have a predisposition for epilepsy like myself :( my moms mom had it but similar to your family member it was just because of a medication reaction when she was young. I am 23 and have been living with seizures since 1999. If at all possible, I would try to see an epileptologist. They're the actual seizure doctors. Not neurologists. I had a 15 minute seizure last month and it was similar to yours. I thought I was going to die. I could see and hear everything but I couldn't move or say anything. Seizures are scary :( but that's why we have each other to talk to on here :) how did your EEG go??

I fell down a bit over year

I fell down a bit over year ago with roller blades. Had fractured finger and minor whipflash. 2 days after I started feeling like after diving and head full of water. I suddenly lost most of my hearing on right side, got dizzy and dr described that I have meniere's and severe migrainevwhich has nothing to do with accident...now year after, I'm loosing hearing from the other ear and have developed epilepsy seizures which I already have had several in month time...My insurance company says this is not falling related but it all must be if otherwise healthy person develops all these straight after falling. If I would you, I would look for good neurologist to fight your case. Epilepsy is never a reason, it is always a cause and that can be caused by acccident.Good luck!
