New and not sure about symptoms

Hi, my name is Kate. I'm 24 years old and have been experiencing strange symptoms since I was a kid. The last few months I have been having a lot of strange symptoms and the doctors don't seem to know exactly what's causing them although they haven't checked me for seizures. I'm hoping someone on here will recognize some of my symptoms and be able to give me more information on what this could be. 1. A sense of deja vu frequently along with a memory of having dreamt the sitaution before. Bizarre, I know. Happened more often when I was a kid than it does now. 2. Strange changes in vision, hard to describe, especially after playing video games or being surrounded by blacklights or flashing lights. 3. An overwhelming odd sensation, feeling like something is not right, with difficulty concentrating. Usually causes a panic attack. Sometimes it's so overwhelming it causes me to abrubtly stop what I'm doing and occasionally I just stare (I'm perfectly aware of what I'm doing though) 4. I've been experiencing bursts of light when I close my eyes at times. That's been going on for years and I don't know why. 5. Strange sensations in my arms and legs. They may feel abnormally "light" or "weightless", I'll get tingling, muscle fatigue, or difficulty coordinating movements, along with yet another hard to describe "odd" feeling. 6. I will occasionally get flush or goosebumps for no reason 7. I'll experience dizziness, lightheadedness, near fainting episodes, and odd balance problems. 8. Recently I've been tasting blood in my mouth when there wasn't any there and smelling odors like something was burning or really dusty. 9. When I touch something, occasionally it doesn't feel like it's supposed to. It may feel lighter than normal or just feels "off" 10. Sometimes when I look at things colors seem brighter, almost glowing, and sometimes they just look odd for no reason and I have no explanation of how they look odd. 11. I'll get odd sensations in my chest, like my heart is beating too slowly or to weak even if my heart rate is normal. 12. I'll have sensitivity to lights and sounds and even "busy" images or situations where alot is going on. 13. I have a rapid heart beat and occasionally will feel like i'm not breathing well or will hold my breath without realizing it. 14. Movements seem exaggerated That's about it with the exception of about a week ago. I was laying in bed when it suddenly felt like someone hit me on the back of the head with a bolt of electricity. I felt an electrical current through my head and neck, heard a loud buzzing in my ears, and my head flung forward violently. That really kind of hurt. These symptoms don't all happen at the same time, sometimes I'll only experience a few of them or even only one or two of them. Some symptoms may last only a short period and others last all day. I'm sorry this is so long but I'm really confused and am hoping somebody here will be able to relate and help me out. Thanks for your time

Hi Kate, and welcome. I just answered a post to Ninja, who posted along the same lines of what you are experiencing. Temporal lobe seizures. As I said in the post to Ninja, I'm no doctor or neuro, and am not saying they are. Just that I have these type of seizure and your description of what happens to you is in this link. Although complex partial seizures can affect any area of the brain, they often take place in one of the brain's two temporal lobes. This is the reason the condition is sometimes called temporal lobe epilepsy. http://www.trileptal.com/info/understanding/complex-partial-seizures.jsp Temporal lobe seizures can cause some really freaky feelings in people that experience them. Like Ninja, you describe some of them in your post. A suggestion to seeing someone different than the doctors you are now might help if you did. You need to see someone that's for sure. Another suggestion is reading about myoclonic jerking which could explain what happened when you were laying in bed. As I say, I'm no expert, but myoclonic jerks can cause the feeling you describe happened recently. What also might help is if you decide to go see another doctor is reading and writing down what it is you experience, the description(if you can) of what others have seen, and keeping that safe until you do. What also might offer insight into what you are experiencing is taking a look at the links below. Seizures take many forms. Before your doctor can prescribe the right treatment, he or she must figure out which type (or types) you have. That's the purpose of all the tests discussed in the Diagnosis section—not just to tell whether you have epilepsy but also to tell what kind. There are so many kinds of seizures that neurologists who specialize in epilepsy are still updating their thinking about how to classify them. Usually, they classify seizures into two types, primary generalized seizures and partial seizures. The difference between these types is in how they begin: http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/types_seizures.html http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/seizure_complexpartial.html http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/epilepsy_temporallobe.html Hang in there. Thanks so much for your post. It makes me feel so much better to have someone look at my symptoms and recognize something in them. I was starting to simply right myself off as being insane. I'm definately finding a new doctor soon and I will definately ask about temporal lobe seizures. Thanks Again, Kate Hope begins in the dark, the stubborn hope that if you just show up and try to do the right thing, the dawn will come. You wait and watch and work: You don't give up. Anne Lamott

http://domino1.corefusion.net/client/EO/EOWeb.nsf/web/Simple+Partial+Seizures http://www.e-epilepsy.org.uk/pages/articles/show_article.cfm?id=88 Here are other sites for you to look at. The seizures, if that is what they are, could be from other areas such as parietal or occipital lobe too. Mine come from the parietal lobe mostly. Much of what you are talking about sounds a lot like what I experience. Try to get to a neurologist. Emily
