Keppra & Pregnancy

Mon, 03/27/2006 - 15:01
Hi All! :) I've had a szr disorder since I was 10yrs old. Now that I'm 29 & married since Oct 14,05, a newlywed, my husband & I want to try for me to get pregnant soon. I have mostly partial onset seizures, when I was younger I was diagnosed with petit-mal szrs. So we're a little scared, because of the meds I'm on. I was on Depakote&Topamax for years, but my doctor recently wheened me off both, because of us wanting to try to get pregnant soon. Mainly the Depakote was a problem if I wanted to get pregnant. Topamax I was just having bad side effects too. He also has me on Folic Acid-1mg ,4pills daily. So,has anyone ever been pregnant while on Keppra? I'm on Keppra as of now, 500mg-3pills am & 3pills PM,total of 3,000 mg daily! I asked my Neurologist & he said try, but I want to be sure. My pcp is checking for me as well. I'm also on Synthroid, 75mcg,1 pill in am. I have a hypo-thyroid condition for over 8-9 yrs now. So anyone out there that knows anything ,please let me know. Thank you so much! NICOLE G :)

Hi Nicole- I'm sorry that I have no experience to share with you but I have just recently been diagnosed with what you have, and I guess I've had it my whole life... which explains a lot of things. My husband and I have been married for about 2 years, and I we are also trying to get pregnant. I haven't even started the medication yet... but if the doctor knows that we are trying to get pregnant should he even start me on medication? I'm really interested in what an experienced person with this has to tell you. Let me know what you think as well. Thanks. Sasha C.
