Hello all! Question about Swelling and discomfort.

Tue, 02/28/2006 - 15:58
Hello all! I'm new here and wanted to say hello to everyone! I have had epilepsy for about 6 years now, but, was just diagnosed over a year ago with complex partial epilepsy. I'm 22, I work full time and go to school, so Im pretty active and this hasn't slowed me down much. The last month or so though I have felt awful. When I get my seizures I get swelling all down my left side and I can't sit still with out being in utter discomfort! I was wondering if anyone else has these symptoms and if you had any ways that you handle them (prefferably without drugs!). I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you all so much, and I am happy to now be part of the epilepsy.com fam!

I suggest a sports masseur or chiropractor. I'm often stiff and sore after my seizures. Remedial massage can help with lymphatic flow (that might be what is causing the swelling) and ease your discomfort. The hot/cold shower trick works too and is much cheaper. Go for a long rinse and vary the temperature of the water as much as you can stand. It helps with circulation.

Thank you very much. I will try out the shower....but, Im hesitant to see a chiropractor. A massage would be a nice treat!! Thanks again, the advice is much appreciated!!
