Dream-like Episode. Is this a seizure?

Mon, 07/31/2017 - 11:13
I had an episode a couple nights ago where I felt like I was remembering a dream. After a couple of seconds, I was fully immersed in this memory/dream. I was aware it was happening, but couldn't pull myself out of it. It lasted for a minute or two, and when I came back, I was nauseous. Right before the episode, I felt tingling at the base of my skull. After it was over, I couldn't remember anything about the memory/dream, just that it had happened. This isn't the first time this has happened. I've been having these "episodes" since 2011 (when I was 20). There's always some degree of familiarity to the "dreams." Kinda like deja vu. I am completely awake when they happen (they've happened while taking a shower, cooking, walking on my college campus, etc). The one Friday night was the worst I've ever had. I saw my GP for them in 2011, and he wrote me off. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Could it be a seizure? My grandmother had epilepsy, so there is a family history. I do have a doctor's appointment next week, just wanted to get other's input as well.

I can't say yes or no that it

I can't say yes or no that it is epilepsy. From what you've experienced. I don't believe it can be passed down, because I have two sons (21 and 17) that don't have it. What I can say from my 41 years of having it.  I don't remember a single dream when I sleep,  or had seizures  in the past. Petimal or grandmal. Even when a grandmal put me in a coma for a week seven years ago. I remembered nothing.

I used to go through that a lot. My Neuro calls it AURAS. I'd have feelings of De Ja Vu and would sometimes feel a slight tingle on the top of my scalp, my heart would start racing like I've been startled and sometimes I'd feel like I'm daydreaming. It would last for maybe 1 or 2 minutes then completely go away. I had 2 separate episodes where I had a grand mal right after this "aura", which was strange since I would only have seizures in my sleep. My advice is, do more research before you conclude what it actually is. Don't go running to your doctor telling them that you've just had an aura... this would only give them a reason to just shove pills down your throat. Let them do an eeg n hopefully you have this feeling WHILE testing and they determine that it is an actual aura. My auras happened only when I'm in a familiar place or look at everyday things like entering/ leaving MY bathroom, locking MY doors to my house or even looking at a fire hydrant. I know it sounds ridiculous but these familiar actions/ items gives me the feeling of de ja vu. What sounds even more crazy is that these feelings were somewhat soothing to me... i hope you find out what they are. Good luck!
