Diagnosed with myoclonic epilepsy

Fri, 07/18/2014 - 22:28

Hi my name is Jess,

I'm 25 and I've been diagnosed

with myoclonic epilepsy. I was diagnosed 2 years ago and just realized it. All of my eegs were normal, my neurologist went off my symptoms. Shoulder jerking when riding in the car through sunlight through the trees, shoulder jerking during strobe lights, shoulder jerking while watching movies with red and blue flashing lights police cars, police cars in general, playing videogames, watching music videos with flashing lights, and listening to Kanye West Power song. My hand jerks also in the morning in addition to head jerking before my period. I had these symptoms simce I was 13. i don't get abscence seizures or tonic clonic seizures. Could this be Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy?

I have a weird brain because I also have ADHD,  Autism Spectrum Disorder, Migraines, and Schizophrenia. I'm on Depakote 250 mg twice a day. Does anyone know a good medication for JME or Myoclonic Epilepsy? Does this sound like JME?

Thanks for your help,

Jess

I don't know that much about

Submitted by just_joe on Sat, 2014-07-19 - 09:49
I don't know that much about some of the types of seizures but I have been doing more research, I had been having seizures for about 2 years and taking meds for it before I was diagnosed. Which means you are not different in many ways. I had 15-20 EEG's all come up normal. Seeing that your seizures happen when lights flash means you are photo sensitive too. Your neurologist knows th emedications well and generally he has patients on them and knows what they have done for his patients. So let him prescribe the meds for you. As mereloaded posted depakote is a good medication and yes I used it. It controlled my seizures and did bring the number of seizures down. Doc and I wanted better control which is why I didn't stay on it. She also stated keppra is a good med and I can attest to it since I have been using it for years.  in addition to head jerking before my period  I hope this helps and you get the assistance you need Joe
