Child Nocturnal Seizures

Tue, 12/01/2015 - 12:59

My daughter who is seven was recently diagnosed with nightime seizures ranging from 5-12 seconds. She does not wake up or even know they are happening. She had an MRI years ago, so we knew there was a chance of seizures, but never had an EEG confirming she was already having them until recently when her new neurologist ordered one. I suspct they have been going on for years. The neurologist says we should put her on medication and it will most likely be for life. In speaking with family and even some teachers they all responded negatively to medication. I can't sleep because I don't want to make the wrong decision that may affect her future. My initial reaction was why not try the medicine, it may improve her sleep and help her concentrate more in school. But then I got all this negative feedback. I'm completely new to seizures and information would be helpful. I read somewhere that seizures get worse if not treated, is that true?
