anyone else have a 10-yr old for a doctor? need help!

okay, i know im ranting and venting and all that but i need help! i went to my doctor's office (a family clinic thingy) to see about new meds, because my old doc (who is now retired) had no problem with letting me try new things etc. but unfortunately retired before these issues came up- these infantile docs at this clinic will not help me- i told him why i needed to get off dilantin and told him what meds i was looking into, and he said he wont give me anything, just sent me in for labwork- and now he's upped my dilantin dosage to 5 a day! for anyone else who has gained weight on dilantin, its given this little completely healthy vegetarian chick another 15 pounds, in 1.5 weeks! i told him that he needed to give me something else or give me a diet pill and he did neither, just blew me off, said he would refer me to a neurologist, but i have heard nothing i have a really good insurance plan, what do i have to do to get some real adult medical care!?!?!?!?!??!!???

Very frustrating, I know. If he hasn't referred you, refer yourself. Just call neurologists and ask if they are taking new patients. Regarding your family doctor.... Is it possible to switch physicians? I am trying to figure out if I should or not right now, because my family doctor doesn't really listen, either. If you CAN switch, I would recommend it. No one needs the stress of a doctor who won't listen. You know yourself. Good luck.

yeah im gonna try to switch- unfortunately here in okc there is the medical school here, so most doctors that are taking new patients are the ones who just recently graduated or just finished residencies, etc.... he says i need to have all new tests done, but i dont wanna pay him to sit back and tell me that- i wanna pay a real doctor to help me :) "The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had....."
