TRILEPTAL 600MG

I started taking Trileptal about two months ago to control my seizures. My seizures only occur at night. The medication doesn't seem to be working. I've had about 8 to 10 seizures since I've had this medication perscibed to me. How long should I take this medication before I go to bed so it would be the most effective? Some questions I've been pondering, I would like to know your experiences with medications that are similar to Trileptal. Thanks.

Alan, I have been on trileptal for years now. I am in the middle of getting off of it. I get low sodium from trileptal. But now that the dose is lowered the low sodium problem stopped.
Trileptal causes low sodium. I used to get my levels check for low sodium once a month.

Hi Alan
Have you talked to your doctor about this yet? I know my neurologist started me off on Trileptal at 600mg and over the last few weeks has raised it to 1200mg, he told me they can go as high as 2400mg. Perhaps you're just not at the right dose yet? Definately talk to your doctor though.

Hi Alan, my son takes trileptal, it took about 4 months and many gradual dose increases to become stable. Our doc started us at a low dose and increased as needed, followed by frequent bloodwork to monitor the blood levels. It is my understanding that you are at a higher risk of continue having seizure unless you are at "therapeutic" levels in your blood. Has your doc checked your blood levels? good luck.
