Topomax or Zonegran, speech delays

Sat, 04/18/2015 - 07:32

Hi, my 4 yr. old son doesn't talk at this time due to ADEM, lesions in the brain.  Before ADEM, he was articulate and spoke very well.

Currently, he's on Topomax and is drowsy, sluggish and tired a lot of the time.  He's just not himself despite having ADEM.  We also think Topomax may be inhibiting his ability to try to speak b/c he does try to talk.

We wanted to try Zonegran for his partial frontal seizures.

What is others advice/opinions about these two meds and any other w/ least side effects?  In the past he was on Keppra and it did not work for him.
